Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar is an inspiration to most of the stars. He is known for releasing 3-4 movies yearly. However, ‘Khiladi Kumar’s’ journey in Bollywood was not a cake walk as reportedly he had worked as a waiter in Bangkok and also had done many odd jobs to make ends meet. Now, on Reddit, a post has gone viral where netizens claimed that Akshay wasn’t a struggling waiter who made it big through martial arts skills.
Netizens slam Akshay Kumar’s struggling days as a waiter, revealing he was privileged
A netizen noted how Akshay was born into government employee privilege. His father, Hari Om Bhatia, was an Army officer turned UNICEF accountant with a stable income. The family had financial stability to support his martial arts training from childhood. The netizen questioned Akshay’s journey from a waiter to a superstar, sounding inspiring. It was noted that Akshay’s father had enough money to send him to Thailand for 5 years of martial arts training, a luxury that most families couldn’t afford. Bangkok period wasn’t a survival struggle as his training abroad was supported with family financial backing. A part of the viral note also read:
“Worked as a waiter/ chef to supplement income during training, not for survival. Martial Arts expertise gave him a unique positioning in Bollywood action films. Returning to Mumbai with international martial arts credentials opened doors that most struggling actors never accessed. His work ethic and discipline were exemplary, but his privilege was a stable, well-earning family. Self-made stars don’t start with a government employee father’s funding, 5 years of international training.”
