In a recent conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Shahid Rafi spoke his heart out and revealed how Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle allegedly tried to undermine his father’s career out of jealousy. He shared that the singer duo didn’t like to hear people calling his father a number one artist. He remembered the time, when his father, Mohammed Rafi, was depressed and had spent nine years at home. In his words:
“They were jealous that Rafi saab was on top of them; they wanted everyone to be below. People were calling him number one, and they didn’t like that. I heard somewhere that he was sitting at home for nine years and was depressed. Please! Just listen to any song he sang in the 1970s.”
