After almost 14 years, Neil talked about the controversial incident in a chat with Siddharth Kannan. He said he never wanted to insult him and that he loved Shah Rukh Khan. Talking about the incident, Neil shared that he was having fun with Shah Rukh and knew it. Neil added that Shah Rukh had already given him a head-up about his stint, but he wasn’t fully aware. Neil was quoted as saying:

“Not at all. They were never insults. I would never ever, I love that man, the entire nation loves him. He was having fun, I was having fun and both of us knew that.”
