Washington Sundar was born on October 5, 1999, in Tamil Nadu, into a cricket-enthusiast family. While his father, Mani Sundar, was considered for the Tamil Nadu state team, Washington’s sister, M.S. Shailaja, has represented Tamil Nadu. From an early age, Washington was exposed to cricket, saw his father coaching, and even received his first cricket kit from his father’s academy. He made his debut in domestic cricket in October 2016 and also featured in the India U-19 World Cup squad of the same year.

Washington Sundar is also India’s youngest T20I player, having made his debut at just 18 years and 80 days old against Sri Lanka in 2017. However, he caught everyone’s attention when Rising Pune Supergiants selected him as a replacement for an injured Ravichandran Ashwin in the 2017 IPL season. In 2018, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him, and in the same year, Washington was included in India C’s squad for the Deodhar Trophy.
