Annu Kapoor Recalls Why He Had To Change His Birth Name During Initial Days In Industry, ‘I’m Zero’

Annu Kapoor is a well-known actor, singer, director, radio disc jockey, and television presenter. He has been part of several films and television projects in his career spanning over 40 years, including Ek Ruka Hua Faisla, Jolly LLB 2, 7 Khoon Maaf, Hum, Ghayal, Hum Kisise Kum Nahin, Aitraaz, and many more. Recently, he was also part of a Radio show, Suhaana Safar With Annu Kapoor, which aired on 92.7 big FM. However, do you know Annu Kapoor’s name was not this earlier? Yes! You read it right. Now, in an interview, he revealed the same and also talked about the reason behind changing his name.

Annu Kapoor on why he had to change his name from Anil Kapoor

For the uninitiated, Annu Kapoor was born with the name ‘Anil Kapoor’. However, after coming to the industry, he changed to what we today know him as ‘Annu Kapoor’. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Annu recalled the initial days when he came to Mumbai to join the industry. He mentioned how by that time, his Mr. India co-star, Anil Kapoor was already an eminent name in the Hindi film industry. He shared:

“I came to Mumbai in 1984 and Anil Kapoor was already a star by that time. He was born in 1965 December and I was born in February the same year. Though, none of that matters really. Now, he is a hero and I am zero. The one who is zero has to compromise.”
