Dhadak, released in 2018, marked the debut of Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. After the success of the first film, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has now expanded the film into a franchise. A spiritual sequel named Dhadak 2, starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, is all set to release on August 1, 2025. Though the stories are not connected, there are two commonalities between the films.
First, the theme revolves around a taboo love story in the context of caste bias. And the second common factor is that both films of the Dhadak franchise are remakes of popular and critically acclaimed regional films. Dhadak was a Hindi adaptation of the Marathi film, Sairat. Meanwhile, Dhadak 2 is a remake of the Tamil film, Pariyerum Perumal.
Dhadak 2 is a remake of Tamil film, Pariyerum Perumal
Karan Johar officially confirmed in the trailer launch event of Dhadak 2 that the Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer film is a ‘proud adaptation’ of the 2018 Tamil film, Pariyerum Perumal. After this revelation, people have been sceptical whether the remake will be able to live up to the legacy of the original. It was produced by Pa Ranjith, who is known for delivering strong socio-political messages through his films. Pariyerum Perumal was also the debut of Kathir and Anandhi.
