Popular pop singer, Joe Jonas has been hitting the global headlines, ever since he announced his divorce from his ex-wife, Sophie Turner. For the unversed, it was on September 6, 2023, when the ex-couple shared their news of divorce, after four years of their marriage. While they mentioned that their decision was a mutual and amicable ones, keeping in mind their children, but it seems that the legal proceedings for their divorce are not going smoothly. Recently, Sophie Turner issued a fresh lawsuit against her ex-husband for allegedly restraining their daughters from returning to their mother in England. And now, Joe Jonas responds to the same.
Joe Jonas claims Sophie’s lawsuit of restraining their daughters is an abuse of the legal system
In a recent statement to the People’s Magazine, given out by Joe Jonas’ representative, the singer responded to his ex-wife, Sophie Turner’s petition against him, citing the former for carrying out a wrongful retention of their daughters to return to their mother in England, where their schooling takes place. Reacting to such severe allegations, Joe emphasised the misleading use of the term, abduction. Moreover, he claimed that his ex-wife had demanded the passports of the children, so that she could take them away with her permanently to the UK. The statement further mentioned:
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending. When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted. After being in Joe’s care for the past three months at the agreement of both parties, the children are currently with their mother. Sophie is making this claim only to move the divorce proceedings to the UK and to remove the children from the U.S. permanently. The Florida Court has already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children. Sophie was served with this order on September 6, 2023, more than two weeks ago.”
