An eighth-grade student aged 13 in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy was saved from child marriage after she told her school principal about the same. The principal alerted the cops and the child protection officials about it. The incident took place in Nandigama mandal, where a lady called Sravanthi, coming from Kandivada village, got her thirteen-year-old daughter married to a forty-year-old man named Srinivas Goud. The marriage, as per an India Today report, took place on May 28, 2025.
13-year-old girl forced to live with the in-laws of her 40-year-old husband
The wedding reportedly had taken place at a temple and the girl was forced to go and stay with her in-laws. She disclosed the details of the same to her school principal, who filed a complaint, and then the officers from the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), along with the cops and child protection officials, came into action. The girl was reportedly then taken to the Sakhi Centre for counselling as well as support. Based on what was found, the cops then took Sravanthi, the mother, into custody, Srinivas, the groom, along with the priest who conducted the marriage ceremony, and the individual who got the match arranged. Now, all four have been charged under the Prevention of Child Marriage Act.
