Ranya Rao, a Kannada actress, made it to the headlines when she was detained by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on March 4, 2025. The actress was reportedly caught with 14 Kg of gold, which was worth Rs. 12.56 crores. After she was arrested, she was presented in court, wherein she was sentenced to 14 days of judicial custody. It was a few days ago when reportedly her bail request was rejected, and following this, she made some shocking claims of being tortured while in custody. She also stated that the case was falsely pinned on her.
Ranya Rao makes some explosive claims in a letter a day after her bail was denied
According to a report by PTI, Ranya Rao recently wrote a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, wherein she made some explosive claims. In her letter, Ranya stated that she was physically assaulted and slapped multiple times. She further claimed that even after the slaps and assault, she denied putting her sign on some documents that the officials had prepared for her. She mentioned that there were 40 blank pages along with 50-60 typed pages. She remarked that the officials didn’t even give her a chance to prove her point. In Ranya’s words:
“From the moment of my apprehension until I was presented in court, I was physically assaulted, slapped 10-15 times by officers whom I can identify. Despite repeated assaults, I refused to sign the statements they prepared. Under immense pressure and physical assault, I was forced to sign 50-60 typed pages and around 40 blank white pages prepared by the DRI officers.”
