Bollywood has seen many star families with complex relationship dynamics, but few have embraced their blended bonds and accepted the past as gracefully as the Kapur-Pathak household. Shahid Kapoor, son of veteran actor-director Pankaj Kapur and Neeliima Azeem, was just three-and-a-half when his parents separated. In 1988, Pankaj married actress Supriya Pathak, and Shahid, then six, became part of a new family. Despite being his stepmother, Supriya and Shahid have always shared a warm, mother-son bond.
Supriya Pathak talks about her bond with Shahid Kapoor
Supriya Pathak has always been candid when speaking about her relationship with her stepson, Shahid Kapoor, even once calling him the ‘anchor’ of the family. In a recent conversation with BBC Hindi, the actress didn’t hesitate when she said that her bond with Shahid is no different from that of a biological mother and son. She has always treated Ruhaan, Sanah, and Shahid as equals and considers herself not just their mother, but also their friend. Supriya was quoted as saying:
“(Shahid) mera beta hai. Bete ke sath toh normal jaisa maa ka rishta hota hai, vaisa hi hai mera aur Shahid ka bhi rishta… He is really my son. Ruhan, Shahid, and Sanah are all my kids. I can fight with them, love them, laugh with them, I am friends with all of them. I am friends with all three of them.”
