Unforgotten has been a gripping British drama for five seasons. It has offered a rare blend of grisly cold-case crime and emotional warmth to the viewers for the longest time. However, it seems like, despite following its formulaic structure and reliable delivery, this time the show forgot to bring its spark. Despite its often gruesome visuals, corpse discoveries, and forensic dissections, the show has always been a steady source of bizarre comfort and entertainment, thanks to strong performances, restrained pacing, and a sense that justice would, eventually, be served. So, what went wrong in Season 6? Let’s find out.
Unforgotten Season 6 brings back the familiar formula, but something is missing
Unforgotten Season 6 has decided to stick with its established structure of remains being found and the cops trying their best to solve it. This time, the case has landed in the hands of DCI, ‘Jessica James’ and DI, ‘Sunny Khan’. In the beginning itself, a number of seemingly unconnected suspects are introduced, with the detectives’ chaotic personal lives playing a secondary plot in the series. ‘Jess’ struggles with a cheating husband, while ‘Sunny’ grieves his lost loved ones over awkward solo dinners. However, the dynamics between the two leads have softened in the season.
